I have analyzed all the most popular portable pc gamers, and I have reduced this list to only 6 models.
The best of them, in my opinion, is undoubtedly the HP Omen 17 , thanks to its excellent performance, screen quality and excellent hardware.
But I let you make your own idea and invite you to check my purchase guide at the end of the article, to determine what you need to look before buying a laptop PC gamer.

The best pc portable gamer cheap
It has been particularly cautious in this category because I find the entry-level gaming market is a real minefield.
Because brands want to promise "luxury" products to a budget-constrained audience, they mass-produce computers whose defects, ultimately, are so disabling that they are virtually unusable.
I have selected you here PC gamer who, despite their low price, more than properly hold the road. Note that, if your budget is really limited, I invite you to consult our comparative specifically dedicated to inexpensive gamer laptops .
disadvantages
Camera (poorly) positioned under the screen
The first computer in my selection is a newcomer to the market. Indeed, this summer 2018, Lenovo has launched the newcomer of its range of gamer laptops, and the Y530 Legion, intended to replace the excellent Y520 , fulfills its promises!
Let's face it, the Legion Y530 is not the most powerful portable pc gamers. But compared to many entry-level models, it avoids many pitfalls: moderate temperature, beautiful finishes and consistency in the choice of components.
Level design first, we see that the brand has made efforts: the plastic is better bill, and the screen has been advanced to slide more connectivity at the back, and especially to promote better cooling . The rendering is a black and matte case, which gives a sober and elegant appearance, which is not often found in the PC gamer register.
The edges of the screen, they have been reduced, which allows a better visual comfort (on the other hand, the Webcam, suddenly, was relegated to the bottom of the screen, which is not very flattering level taken when you play a network). It is a Full HD screen, which may not satisfy the most demanding in terms of visual, but which guarantees a little less power loss, as I explain in my buying guide. It is, unlike the Y520, anti-reflective, which is a more than welcome addition.
The keyboard is quite flexible, which is nice for extended gaming sessions. It is backlit, which is extremely useful for you to find your orders in the dark.
The Y530 is only available in a 15.6 "display, but you have the choice of components. The version that I propose you offers an Intel Core i5-8300U processor and an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 graphics card. The RAM is 8 GB of RAM, and the hard disk is 1 TB plus a SSD of 256 GB.
If you plan to play less greedy games, you can head blindly to the version without SSD, which has the advantage of costing about 300 € less. Conversely, if you have a big need, know that it exists in Core i7 version.
Connectivity level, you will find 1 HDMI port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and a headphone input. These different ports are split at the back, except for two USB ports and the headphone jack, located on the sides for convenience.
A final advantage of the device is its weight, very reasonable for all the equipment it embarks: only 2.3 kg, which makes it easily transportable.
Finally, the announced autonomy is 9.5 hours. For use in gaming, you must of course have lower performance, rather around 4 or 5 hours, but the result remains very satisfactory, at least for this price range.
In short, the Lenovo Legion Y530 most likely offers one of the best quality / price ratio of the moment among inexpensive gamer laptops. Note that the Lenovo Legion Y520 , which occupied the first place in my comparison, is still available, and at a price even lower since the release of the Y530. Nevertheless, he found an excellent successor.
Acer Predator Helios 300 : more powerful than the Legion Y530, and easy to upgrade
The Helios 300 is the cheapest gaming notebook in the Predator range. If it was originally designed to ride mechanics, with the latest components of the moment and a rather hardcore audience, the Predator range now also focuses on gamers who do not have an unlimited budget, and as we will see the result is rather convincing.
Level design, I'm a little mixed. We can see the Predator's gamer inspirations, with a futuristic shape and an aggressive anthracite red / gray color scheme. But in the end, for a model late 2017, it lacks imagination: Asus and MSI have a little exhausted the concept. The shell gives a brushed metal effect; but looking closer, it's plastic. Overall, however, it leaves an impression of compactness and strength, the construction is rather correct.
The screen is a pretty good surprise - and a snub to Lenovo. At only 15.6 ", it displays not only superior color fidelity to the Legion Y530, but also to the Asus ROG Strix and entry-level MSI computers. On the other hand, the brightness is lacking, especially in a lighted room.
The keyboard is comfortable to use, although I would have preferred a little more response, especially for gamer use. But they offer good resistance, which limits errors. Some keys seem oddly placed, especially the shift that I find much too small and too close to the directional arrows. The touchpad, it is rather standard and of quite good quality.
In terms of audio, I noticed a clear superiority over the Legion. The sound has good power, and even if it's not THX, it can do the trick.
Let's talk about what he has in his stomach now. It has a GTX 1060 and an Intel Core i7. With 16GB of RAM, it's enough for furious multitasking without difficulties. Rise of the Tomb Raider can be rotated with Very High graphics and over 60fps. However, something must be noted: portable PC gamers are rarely up to the most demanding, especially in terms of fps. If you are used to exceeding 90fps on Counter Strike, you will have to go to the higher range.
However, if the performance is not up to your expectations, you can also change the graphics card and processor very easily: there are two hatches under the computer that can be removed without difficulty.
Be careful however, these performances have a price: after an hour of play, recorded temperatures climb to 45 degrees. This is beyond what is considered the threshold of comfort, set at 35 degrees. Basically: if you live in the South, turn on the air conditioning during the summer, because it will ventilate well.
The autonomy is comparable to that of the Legion, with a peak at 4:30 in actual use.
I include the Helios 300 despite its heating problems, because it is enough to be warned - and equipped. Its value for money remains advantageous thanks to very good performance for this price range and a correct screen. But if the temperature problems are prohibitive for you, I advise you to point to the Legion Y530, or other computers in this comparison.
The best mid-range gamer laptops
In this category, I found you excellent products ... Sometimes also victim of their success, to the point that stocks are running out regularly (this is mainly the case of HO Omen 17).
For more than 1500 €, it goes without saying that the screen had to be considerably better than on the entry-level models, and that the user was free from any problem of overheating. Here are the few models that have achieved these goals.
disadvantages
8GB of RAM only (upgradeable)
Already in its old version, the HP Omen 17 won my preference. And since it has suffered a blow of youth in the last quarter of 2018, it is even more the case!
The bad news? In the new as in the old version , stocks are limited and the public is torn off.
Why is he a champion? Simply because it is the best laptop gamer from the point of view of value for money. This version does not have a screen 4K - too greedy on the battery and too expensive - but I selected the one with the best technical sheet from the hardware point of view.
Portability is rarely the priority for a 17 "computer, and this one is no exception. With more than 3 kg on the scale and a thickness of 3.5 cm, this is not the type of device that you carry on a daily basis. However, compared to other models even less optimized, like the EVGA SC17, it is doing pretty well.
Question design, I like this new balance that appears on PCs gamers, who get to have character without falling into exuberance. The HP Omen leans rather on the side of the sobriety, in spite of games of coatings pleasant with the eye and the touch.
The keyboard is not RGB, we only have one color: a red orange rather classy. The keyboard is more than correct, with a very good quality of keys and a resistance which limits the involuntary strikes.
Let's talk about performances. At this price, we expect of course a GTX 1070, and an i7 processor. And that's the case. The cooling system is quite impressive, as on the SaberPro, and some users can complain about a sound level that is not the least. But the result is quite excellent performance for this price. Be careful, however, the upgrade is not very simple, because of the difficulty of access to internal components. But the 16 GB of RAM that comes with this new version should keep this PC a long time without falling into obsolescence.
On the comparison of 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra, already in its old version, the HP Omen exceeds without distinction all the models of which I spoke previously: the Legion like the Helios 300. On Bioshock Infinite , it exceeds the 130fps without difficulties with high graphics settings - without going to the ultra. And from this point of view, it is exceeded only by the Alienware 17 R4, yet much more expensive: that's saying!
Especially since the 17 "screen follows very well with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The MU-MIMO Wi-Fi compatibility - which optimizes bandwidth sharing for better bit rate consistency - should make it a great online gaming beast.
On the other hand, it is autonomy that does not follow. The zeal of ventilation - and its almost uninterrupted operation at stake - puts it below the 4h mark, which is quite average for this price.
From the outset, we could not believe that the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is a laptop designed for gaming. With its sober and compact look, its (very) light weight for this type of PC (1.8 kg), it has everything of the notebook. And yet, it has in the stomach, especially in its new version!
Its gray aluminum frame, of good quality, is very solid. He is sober and elegant, which will allow you to easily take him in the middle of a library or a meeting without going for a big geek.
The frame is very thin, which allows, despite a 15.6 "screen, to have a computer whose size is close to a 14". It is a Full HD screen, whose colorimetry has been well worked. The keyboard, backlit, is nice and, despite the small size of the PC, remains easily manipulated.
On the components side, it is well optimized: Intel Core i7-8750H, Intel GTX1050 Ti 4Gb graphics card, a 1TB hybrid hard drive and 512 GB SSD ... What more could you want? We have here a beast of speed, which allows to play the most greedy games or to stream without incurring lags.
Note that, at the same time that this new version that I propose to you has released a version with Core i9, which has in addition the advantage of having a much lower price (600 EUR of difference at the time of writing these lines ). But beware ! This version, if it has a more powerful processor, has less RAM (8 GB) and a SSD of "only" 128 GB. I think there is here disproportion between the graphics card and the rest of the components , making it a less interesting notebook PC gamer (hence, probably the lowest price).
Connectivity is also well supplied: 1 HDMI port, 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 VGA port. Well, we would have appreciated a USB-C but we will be satisfied.
Compact, lightweight ... would we have found the laptop notebook that is really portable, as seems to announce its name? I think so, because it also has the best autonomy of this comparison: up to 21 hours in "normal" use (a little office, a little game, a little streaming ...). You can count on a dozen hours in gaming!
It represents, in my opinion, the ideal companion of the student who wishes a computer allowing him to take his notes of course the day, and to geeker his evenings. At a reasonable price, it has everything to seduce.
The best high-end gamer laptops
I had trouble deciding on this category. First, to filter out the exuberance: I can not see the point of talking to you about computers with more than 7500 €, and it is difficult to do better than some competitive models between 1500 and 2500 € to justify such a jump in the price.
So with the price-quality ratio in mind, I have retained only two models, which in my opinion bring enough innovation on the market and have enough power to justify a price above average.
In the field of gamer laptops, here is another flagship model that has recently taken a hit: the famous Razer Blade. Yet this is not the newest version, touch, which I will talk about here. Indeed, in my opinion, the touch drains the battery without bringing anything to the game experience. So I will tell you about the traditional model.
It has a full HD matte screen, with a very good brightness, which allows a good gaming experience in various conditions, even in complete darkness.
Let's get straight to the point by looking at the components: Core i7-8750 8th generation (up to 10% faster), 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 2TB HDD hard drive and 512GB SSD. In short, nothing wrong!
I'm going to design now. With its multicolored backlit keyboard, there is no need to say, it throws. It's a keyboard with Razer Chroma technology, which gives each key an individual backlight, allowing unlimited customization options. Now, honestly, it certainly impacts the price, but I'm not sure everyone has any real benefit.
On the other hand, its thickness of 1.78 cm and its weight of less than 2kg make it an ultra-portable model. Better yet, like the Dell XPS 15, once closed, it has a very sober and elegant design, with just the small green buttons of the logo on the cover and at the USB plugs, which makes it absolutely denotes not if you use it in a more classic context, like the library. And, indeed, it will also be perfect as a notebook for a student gamer.
And autonomy? We can count up to 6 hours of gaming, which is very correct. Attention though: although the PC itself is very light, its power supply, rather massive, is 800 gr! It is therefore important to count this extra weight for transportation.
So, is this the perfect laptop gamer? Not quite either. Many users notice an annoyance in noise, but the opposite would be surprising in view of everything it embarks. No, what annoys me more, it is rather the heating which it shows with the use. I strongly advise to invest in a cooling system worthy of the name if you invest in this PC and that you play intensively.
One last word for the road: know that it exists also in version 14 " and 17" . And if you still want to experience the touch screen, here is the link .
Anyone who is interested in PC gaming has heard about Alienware. Nevertheless, if he dominated this sector for a long time, he has now been caught up by the competition and no longer occupies the top of the top. But it is nonetheless a laptop PC gamer very interesting.
The new version of 2018 offers the following features: Core i7-8750H 8th generation processor, 16GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive and 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 6GB graphics card. Again, no complaints.
On the design side, Dell comes back to black (more elegant in my opinion), with always that touch of color on the side of the chassis, on the Pad, and on the cover with the logo so recognizable.
Although less portable than the Razer Blade, here we have a beast of more than 4 kg (but it should also be noted that it is a 17 "screen, unlike its competitor). But above all, we can almost say that it has no autonomy: you will hold at best two hours in gaming (and again ...) In short, a not very portable notebook.
Finally, unlike several competitors who have launched their range of portable PC gamers with the latest generation of processor, it seems that Dell has not here exploited all possibilities of overclocking this new generation, which offers an experience gaming a little less optimal.

With their performance components a little confusing, their assertive design and their often high prices, gamer laptops are from another world than classic notebooks. But if you want to ship The Witcher 3 to a friend without having to move a tower, a screen, a keyboard, a mouse and a power strip in the trunk of the car, it's the price to pay.
How much is the invoice? It varies between 800 and 12 000 €. The weight ? Between 1.8 kg and 9kg. In other words, there is something for everyone - and every budget. But there are some key points to keep in mind, whatever your choice.
And if you really do not find happiness in my comparison because of your limited budget, I invite you to go see our comparison dedicated to "cheap" gamer laptops .
The screen
Some would say: what good to have a graphic card to 600 € if the screen does not follow? And I agree. But a screen of good quality, even on a pc gamer, it means to exceed the bar of 1200-1300 € unfortunately.
How to make sure the screen is of good quality?
The resolution must be at least 1920 × 1080, with a refresh rate of 60 or 120 Hz. If it has G-Sync or FreeSync technology, it's even better, especially for the slightly nervous FPS.
As far as touch is concerned, I am personally against it. Some manufacturers put it forward saying it's great for Candy Crushor other mobile games like Cut the Rope . But in my opinion, it is above all a considerable drain of the battery, at least 400 € more on the bill, and a feature whose utility is generally limited to lovers of strategy games.
Screen size
The size of the screen will depend on the place the manufacturer has to put good material in it. A 15 "computer will often have more heating problems and a lower performance graphics card.
I think we have to keep in mind that the "portable" aspect, except for the ultrafine type Zephyrus, is all relative. These are not always computers that can be moved easily for everyday use - in college, or at work - because they exceed 2 or even 3 kg and they are usually thicker.
The hard drive
All notebook models in this selection are equipped with at least partial SSD storage. Why is it important? First for the installation time, which is much faster, but not that.
When a game is running, it picks up information from the internal memory. An SSD makes it possible to reduce the loading time, in particular.
Minimum configuration
Be careful, some will scream. I know it's not the ideal, but that's where you start. To run a recent game in "low", you need at least a GTX 1050, Intel Core i7-6700HQ (and higher) and 8GB of RAM.
The "sweet spot" between price and performance is usually found with a GTX 1060 and 16 GB of RAM. This is the case of many models between the entry and the mid-range in this comparison.
From a GTX 1070 and 1070 Ti, we get good results in terms of fps and graphics of the game. GTA V , Rise of the Tomb Raider or the last Battlefield will be more comfortable with a GTX 1080.
The Max-Q
The Max-Q is a new GPU design, patented by NVidia, which significantly reduces the power consumption of the GTX. Gold, which says reduced consumption, says temperature controlled.
Watch this technology well: it is still quite expensive, and the performance is very slightly reduced, but it will soon be the certainty of having a computer "future-proof". That is to say, you will not regret the purchase in a year or two.
Games
If it's to run World of Warcraft , it's not really worth it. For the record, I already managed to play on a student notebook 15 "which had cost me 300 € at most.
I would say that categorized "gamer" computers are particularly useful for all games released after 2010, and even more so for those who are potentially very greedy - Minecraft , to name just one.
Online headlines will also ask you for material, such as PUBG ,Overwatch or Fortnite : gamer computers are usually equipped with higher performance WiFi systems to allow for a proper stream, as well as a proper refresh rate at the same level. screen.
